Anyone who really knows me would relay I get student withdrawal in the summer. When one of my students gets the job or internship of their dreams, a small part of me just leaps inside. Seeing their success makes it all worthwhile. It was Iowa State's graduation this past weekend. I vividly remember the sense of accomplishment I felt when walking across the stage at Drake University last year to receive my master's degree. More deeply, I felt gratitude for the sacrifices my parents and my sons made seeing me through my education. So why would someone with grown children go back to school? I'm a life-long learner. I read constantly. During the school year, I read text books, articles, blog posts, web sites and a plethora of other media. In the summer, I can treat myself to the biographies and fiction books I've collected throughout the year.
This is check mark No. 1 of the list of things to do on summer vacation - start a blog. I've been planning to start one for years. Today the journey begins. Who knows what I'll tackle next?
